Embroidery in Heaven and Earth- China Velvet Embroidery Exhibition is an online traditional art landscape created jointly by the Chinese Cultural Center of Brussel and the Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts, and is displayed as a national intangible cultural heritage protection project of China – velvet embroidery, highlighting the spirit of Chinese artisans.
Velvet embroidery is a technological innovation formed by traditional handicraft techniques in the development of modern society, originated in Europe and entered China at the end of the 19th century.
To paintings and photographs as a model, through a variety of needle methods, technical performance of the creation of objects. Is China’s embroidery art and Western arts and crafts fusion and the birth of a unique embroidery, both Jiangnan traditional exquisite craftsmanship, European and American decorative arts, but also the integration of independent innovation of the haipai art style, Compatible between China and the West, beautiful and practical, rich in color, rough and realistic, giving people a strong artistic impact.

As one of the new traditional arts and crafts, it uses colored wool linen to create a kind of arts and crafts embroidered on special mesh linen. Rich in color, color harmony, fine embroidery, clear levels, vivid shape, realistic image. In May 2011, Shanghai velvet embroidery was approved by the State Council to be included in the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
The works on display in this exhibition are carefully crafted by Shanghai contemporary velvet embroidery masters, both Jiangnan Water Township reproduction, and haipai scenery; Presentation, integration of diverse materials, quite cultural, eye-opening.
