The American Richard Sears devoted more than 25 years of his life, to understanding the origin of Chinese Characters. His life long project is to create the world’s largest database of Chinese Characters origin which can be found here.

China Culture Center has collaborated with Sears (known in China as the “Characters Uncle” 汉字 叔叔) in creating a series of videos, that present fascinating facts about Chinese Characters and the stories behind them. Questions like “Are there no circles in Chinese writing?”, “How many Characters do I need to know to read Chinese?” And more, get a clear and interesting answers in the videos.

We invite you to watch the videos and then go to the main website of the event (can be found here) and answer a few questions about the content you just watched – among the correct solvers will be drawn some fine prizes!
