Urumqi (乌鲁木齐) is the capital city of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China. Since the Qing Dynasty period this city is a major economic and cultural center on the Silk Road.

The Urumqi Airport is the largest airport in the area who operates the only airline in China offering flights to Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Urumqis railways form part of the Trans-Euroasian Continental Railway.
